Duke Energy Corp. on Tuesday said the Public Service Commission of South Carolina approved its Green Source Advantage program for the state, allowing it to offer more renewable energy options.

Duke Energy said the program gives large customers "the flexibility of selecting and negotiating all price terms directly with a renewable supplier of their choice as well as retaining renewable energy certificates generated by the renewable facility."

Duke Energy also said the program allows customers and suppliers to agree on contract lengths.

Companies can begin applying for the program on March 29, Duke Energy said, adding the program will be available until its total capacity of 200MW is fully subscribed.

The company also said 35 MW of capacity "will be set aside for local government and university customers for nine months," while the remaining 165MW will be made available to large nonresidential customers.
