(Indianapolis, IN - June 28, 2021) Duke Realty Corporation (NYSE: DRE), the leading domestic only, pure-play logistics property REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) in the United States, announces that it has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) on four of its recently developed logistics buildings.

On April 20th Duke Realty was awarded the LEED v4 for Core and Shell Volume Program Precertification Level of Gold, a streamlined solution for achieving certification on future projects based on the approval of its building prototype. The volume program is designed to help developers save time and money by leveraging technical uniformity in their building design and construction and operational practices, allowing them to expedite review of every LEED project.

'Under USGBC's volume certification program, we will be able to use the efficiencies gained by developing facilities that share similar design and construction elements, quality control and maintenance practices to attain a common set of LEED prototype credits,' said Pete Harrington, Executive Vice President of Construction for Duke Realty. 'In turn, we will be able to achieve certification on a group of projects, rather than individual building assessments, thereby reducing review time and cost.' Duke Realty currently has 12 buildings in the LEED volume program pursuing certification.

The four most recent Duke Realty LEED certified projects are:

  • Clay 99 Building 1 in Katy, Texas;
  • Greenfield North 1201 in Garner, North Carolina;
  • RGLP Rail 1566 in Columbus, Ohio; and
  • 4375 N. Perris Blvd. in Perris, California.

Clay 99 Building 1, a 805,000-square-foot warehouse; Greenfield North 1201, a 165,900-square-foot industrial building; and RGLP Rail 1566, a 357,500-square-foot facility, received LEED Certified® designation, while 4375 N. Perris Blvd., a 1.0 million-square-foot logistics facility, earned LEED Silver® designation. All these certifications were received prior to Duke Realty's participation in the volume certification program.

'In each of our recently certified projects, we continued our long-standing commitment to implementing strategies designed to ensure environmentally sustainable construction and site development, water savings, energy efficiency, and waste management,' added Harrington. 'Now through our participation in the volume program and our preapproved prototype for LEED Gold® certification, we will be even better positioned to add to our list of environmentally sensitive logistics facilities.'

LEED certification is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and provides independent, third-party verification that a building project has implemented measurable strategies for sustainable site development.

'Sustainable development continues to be an integral component of Duke Realty's Corporate Responsibility program,' said Megan Basore, Vice President of Corporate Responsibility for the company. 'Our growing slate of LEED certified facilities and our participation in the LEED volume program are just two examples of our ongoing commitment to operating our business responsibly and ethically with the highest regard for our stakeholders and our world.'
