Topics address enhanced acoustic, signal-friendly solar films, and augmented reality enabling head-up display advanced interlayers.

KINGSPORT, Tenn.-(January 8, 2021) - For the first time, Eastman Chemical Company is exhibiting at CES 2021, presenting the latest Saflex® Advanced Interlayers for automotive laminated glass. Eastman is a global leader of interlayer solutions for automotive glazing applications with a long-proven history and expertise in auto-approved functional films integration. CES provides the perfect platform to kick-off the year and get connected on recent advances in signal-friendly solar solutions, acoustic layers to enhance speech recognition, and next generation head-up display (HUD) interlayers for projecting augmented reality.

CES 2021 will be an all-digital event, taking place globally from Monday through Thursday, January 11-14.

'CES 2021 offers a unique opportunity to engage with innovation leaders in display, consumer electronics, and acoustics in the auto industry,' says Hemant Dandekar, Marketing and Strategy Director - Advanced Interlayers with Eastman. 'There will be special conference sessions specifically about the Vehicle Tech Innovations Consumers Want and Automotive Transformation: EVs and Connectivity, both topics relevant to the use of Saflex solutions.'

The Saflex automotive teamwill discuss various Saflex Advanced Interlayers for laminating automotive glass, including recent product launches of the Saflex E Series Enhanced Acoustic interlayer and our newest solar interlayers for signal-friendly, multifunctional windshields.

Head-Up Display and Augmented Reality:The Future of Driving Technology

Eastman continues to develop new technologies and capabilities for the next generation of HUD systems, including In-Plane/Transparent Display, and foresees a future of improved driver safety with Augmented Reality-HUD (AR-HUD). AR-HUD will enable drivers to make adjustments in real time with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) alerts and navigation prompts that display graphics at virtual image distances (VID) up to infinite distance, but more typically 10 m. Projecting information further out from the driver's perspective significantly improves the driver's awareness of an approaching situation, allowing more time to react.

SaflexE Series Enhanced Acoustic Interlayer

Eastman Advanced Interlayers has leveraged its patented resin and plasticizer technology platforms to formulate a unique viscoelastic core layer, called TranquilGlassä. This unique formulation helps Saflex E Series Enhanced Acoustic interlayer create a more balanced sound profile across higher frequency ranges and vehicle speeds than traditional acoustic interlayers, particularly relevant for electric vehicles, in which wind noise is a far more prevalent noise source. Voice recognition for commands/calls, reduction of exterior noises, and an overall quieter cabin keep the driver less distracted and better focused on driving safely.

SaflexSolar Interlayers for Multifunctional Windshields

Our newest Saflex Solar interlayer will bring to life the next generation of multifunctional windshields that satisfy the comfort, compatibility and informational needs of modern vehicles. This technology can provide exceptional solar heat rejection while maintaining compatibility with infrared rain sensors and ORBIS traffic camera systems. It will also be a signal-friendly interlayer, meaning it won't interfere with the function of electronic toll sensors, mobile devices or GPS. Because it will offer solar control while enabling sensor capabilities and signal transmission, this interlayer solution may be a more attractive option for automotive manufacturers when compared with metal-coating technologies.
