EASYJET's senior executives are jetting off to Mallorca tomorrow, as thousands of passengers bear the weight of the ongoing travel chaos.

The airline's management team will have a two-night corporate retreat at luxury resort Iberostar in Palma, which counts an infinity pool and a sunset champagne bar among its many amenities.

Bosses will leave tomorrow from Luton and Gatwick, as first reported by the Sunday Times.

The trip will take place two days after the low-cost carrier was forced to axe several flights as around 450 Spanish cabin crew members walked out over deteriorating working conditions.

Members of Spanish union USO working at Barcelona, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca's airports are set to go on strike for another six days throughout July, between 15 and 17 and 29 and 31 July.

Over the last few weeks, strike-induced disruption has impacted major airlines such as Ryanair.

Cabin crew members in several EU countries such as Portugal, France and Italy went on strike at the end of June.

While those going abroad face disruption because of striking workers, travellers at UK airports also continue to face chaos.

Despite government efforts to speed up staff security checks, lengthy queues and delays persist at major hubs such as Heathrow.

The Department for Transport (DfT) said yesterday counter-terrorism checks were now being processed in 10 days on average - half the time it took in March - while accreditation now takes five days.

When asked by the Sunday Times, Easyjet defended its senior executives' Mallorca trip, saying it was "entirely appropriate for the management board to undertake business meetings around the network". The management board remains "absolutely focused" on the firm's daily operations, it added.
