CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) _ Editas Medicine Inc. (EDIT) on Monday reported a third-quarter loss of $39.1 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 57 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 86 cents per share.

The genome editing company posted revenue of $6.2 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.9 million.
