Greater Tortue Ahmeyim : a new milestone

Heading for the Mauritania-Senegal border. Ten kilometres off the coast, Eiffage Génie Civil Marine's teams have begun a new phase in the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project for @bp. They are building the LNG mooring and transfer platform that will be installed between the floating liquified natural gas unit and the LNG tankers that will be loaded for export

This mixed steel/concrete platform, the first slab of which was recently installed, rests on Ø 1800 mm piles installed by our partner @saipem. These piles are interconnected by a steel structure of more than 3,000 t, installed and bolted offshore, on which concrete elements, prefabricated on our yard in Dakar, are installed.

To build this structure, all the logistics are organised from the Dakar yard, which was used to build the 21 caissons that form the breakwater that will protect the platform. The operations mobilised a fleet of some fifteen vessels - one of which housed the teams - and three cargo barges that rotated between the yard and the hub, 125 nautical miles apart. The aim was to transfer the 400 elements that make up the structure, which will then be installed offshore by lifting.

During this phase of the work, Eiffage Génie Civil Marine reaffirmed its commitment to the local economy. More than 60% of the offshore workers are local employees, for whom this is their first experience at sea. All of them benefited from a training programme developed and offered by the project, in order to improve their skills to meet the requirements expected in terms of prevention, environment and quality on this type of operation.
