Electricite de France SA late on Tuesday said that it could stop one generation unit at its Tricastin nuclear power plant on the Rhone river from Saturday due to high temperatures.

The French state-controlled utility said a minimum production of at least 400 megawatts will be maintained at the plant, with two units in operation.

High water temperatures in France are putting some nuclear plants' output at risk as river water is often used to cool down reactors.

EDF already warned it could lower nuclear production at the Golfech nuclear plant on the Garonne river starting from Thursday, and at the Saint Alban plant on the Rhone from Saturday. A minimum production of at least 300MW and 700MW will be maintained at the two plants respectively, but this might change according to grid needs, according to the company.
