The U.K.'s competition regulator said Monday that it is looking into Electricite de France SA's deal to buy General Electric Co.'s nuclear steam-power business.

The Competition and Markets Authority is inviting comments on the deal as it assesses whether it could affect competition in the U.K.

State-controlled utility EDF in November signed the acquisition of the activities of GE Steam Power, a subsidiary of the U.S. group, for an undisclosed sum.

The CMA said it will accept comments from interest parties until April 14, ahead of a potential formal investigation.
