REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) _ Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $211 million.

On a per-share basis, the Redwood City, California-based company said it had net income of 72 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, were $3.09 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.94 per share.

The video game maker posted revenue of $1.67 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $2.4 billion, which also beat Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.38 billion.

For the current quarter ending in March, Electronic Arts said it expects revenue in the range of $1.32 billion.

The company expects full-year earnings to be $2.54 per share, with revenue expected to be $5.6 billion.

Electronic Arts shares have increased nearly 4% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 2%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $149.22, a climb of 42% in the last 12 months.
