LONDON, UK (Nov. 9, 2021)-- Elementis, a leading global specialty chemicals provider, has completed home and clinical testing of a new product made by Aqdot, a supramolecular chemtech company based in Cambridge, England: Elementis engaged an independent laboratory to test the AqFresh™ Pure additive for incorporation into a roll-on or stick deodorant format (INCI: cucurbiturils, named for Cucurbita, the Latin word meaning pumpkin).

Elementis and Aqdot team members are available to provide more details at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists Suppliers' Day 2021 which will be held Nov. 10 and Nov. 11 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Elementis representatives will welcome visitors at Booth Number 1511. Aqdot will host visitors at Booth Number 1472.

Earlier this year, Elementis and Aqdot established an exclusive commercial collaboration agreement for additives developed to address the needs of the growing global anti-perspirant and deodorant market. Through this agreement, the Elementis Personal Care Business is offering AqFresh™ Pure odour capture and smart fragrance release solution exclusively for use in anti-perspirant and deodorant product formulations. The patented odour elimination technology allows for the capture of malodours molecules, trapping them in the Cucurbiturils. Fragrance molecules which are pre-loaded during the formulation process are released by exposure to malodour.

Home and Clinical Test Results
"Knowing that AqFresh™ Pure has shown exceptional in vitro deodorising effects we then elected to test this product and access its performance in vivo. Conducting home and clinical testing of AqFresh™ Pure was especially important to Elementis because it demonstrates the consumer perceptible performance of AqFresh™ Pure under realistic conditions," explained Jens Mueller, global marketing director for Elementis Personal Care.

For initial screening results, a trained panel of home testers used a stick deodorant with 1 percent AqFresh™ Pure included in the formulation. The home test participants showered in the morning, then applied the deodorant with AqFresh incorporated under one arm only. After 12 hours, 84 percent of the home testers preferred the AqFresh Pure treated side. After 24 hours, 100 percent of the volunteers preferred the AqFresh Pure treated side. Even after 48 hours, the home testers could perceive a difference with 64 percent preferring the AqFresh Pure treated side.

The initial positive results were confirmed by a clinical study under scientific conditions. The study proved that inclusion of only .3 percent AqFresh™ Pure provides immediate and long-term odour reduction and reduces odour perception from perceptible to not perceptible or barely perceptible. In the clinical study, odour evaluation experts conducted four assessments - at 2-minute, 8-hour, 24-hour and 48-hour time periods. Odour was reduced by more than 50 percent after 24 hours and more than 35 percent after 48 hours.

Malodour challenge testing demonstrated the odour capture longevity efficacy. AqFresh™ Pure placed in a closed container, was exposed to a dose of malodour every three days over a six-week period. While the control sample developed a strong malodour, the sachet containing AqFresh™ Pure only developed a very weak malodour.

Detailed information about the protocols used in these studies is available upon request.

Additional Benefits for Formulators and Consumers
AqFresh™ Pure was awarded the Material Health Cradle to Cradle Platinum certification for environmental health and safety compliance. Use of AqFresh™ Pure will not cause eye or skin irritation to consumers. AqFresh™ Pure is not hazardous to fish, aquatic invertebrates, or microorganisms in sewage plants. It does not bioaccumulate and is abiotically degradable according to OECD 111.
