Elma ? Interim Results as of June 30, 2011: continued negative currency effects reduce result

Wetzikon, August 26, 2011 ? The Elma Group achieved solid results in the 1st half-year

2011 and made good progress in the implementation of its strategic and operational targets. Reasons are the attractive products and the range of complete solutions in system integration and services as well as the innovation of the Company. The biggest challenge in the first half of 2011 was the continued depreciation of the US Dollar and the Euro against the Swiss Franc. On Group level, revenue increased by 10% in local currencies. In Swiss Francs, it declined by 4.7% to CHF 62.4 million (previous year: CHF 65.5 million). Order income showed a similar development. Adjusted for currency translation effects, order income rose by 11.0%, but declined in Swiss Francs by 4.1% to CHF 60.4 million (previous year: CHF 63.0 million). Despite the severe negative exchange rate effects on revenue and order income, Elma closed the first 6 months with an EBITDA of CHF 4.1 million and an EBIT of CHF 3.0 million. The net profit came to CHF 1.3 million.

Analysis of business results in the first half year 2011

All regions were able to increase their revenue adjusted for currency translation effects compared to the previous year: the Americas region increased the revenue by 11.8%, whereas the Europe region grew by 7.2%, and the Asia region went up 14.1% respectively. The strong Swiss Franc, however, had a marked impact on the interim financial statements: in the Americas region revenue fell by

8.2%, in the Europe regions a slight decline of 0.3% was posted, whereas in the Asia region revenue decreased by 6.3%.

The product lines System Solutions and Enclosures & Components reached good revenue growth adjusted for currency translation effects. System Solutions managed an increase of 14.4% whereas Enclosures & Components? revenue rose by 6.5%. However, revenue of the product line Rotary Switches declined by 2.4%. The product lines suffered from the currency turmoil in the first six months of 2011: Both System Solutions and Enclosures & Components posted a decrease in Swiss Francs of 3.6% each. The revenue of the product line Rotary Switches, which operates its business mainly in the dollar area, fell by 10.5%.

Although revenue declined in Swiss Francs due to negative foreign exchange rate effects, Elma closed the first half year 2011 with an EBITDA of 4.1 million (previous year: CHF 4.4 million) and an EBIT of CHF 3.0 million (previous year: CHF 2.9 million). The net profit rose to CHF 1.3 million (previous year: CHF 1.2 million).

At June 30, 2011, Elma posted a balance sheet total of CHF 64.7 million (31.12.2010: CHF 66.4 million) and an equity ratio of 29.0% (31.12.2010: 29.0%). Net debt increased over the last six months by CHF 0.8 million to CHF 19.2 million mainly due to lower cash balances. The financial covenants set by the banks in the year 2010 were complied with.

The major objectives hereby are an excellent product quality, customer satisfaction and a sound balance sheet structure. Today, Elma is geographically well diversified and plays a prominent role in its main markets which promise good growth perspectives. Entering new markets will be addressed gradually.
