HALIFAX - After a careful decision and interview process, 28 outstanding recipients have been chosen for Nova Scotia Power's 2020 Scholarship and Bursary program.

'Being a NS Power Women in Trades, Engineering, & Technology Scholar is an honour,' says Danielle Crow from Upper North River, who will be attending Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in the fall. 'I am a minority in my field, especially being in civil engineering. There are still many barriers for women to break in these fields and knowing NS Power supports us means a great deal to me.'

Each year, NS Power offers 28 scholarships and bursaries to qualifying students enrolled in trades and degree programs. The categories include: Emerging Leader, Women in Trades, Engineering and Technology, African Nova Scotian, Nova Scotia Power Family and Mi'kmaq.

'At Nova Scotia Power, we're proud to foster education, diversity, inclusion and innovation to help empower students to follow their dreams,' say Sara Phinney, VP of Human Resources. 'Providing opportunities to learn and grow is essential for creating a workforce that will help build successful communities of tomorrow.'

Students in Nova Scotia and all over the world have been navigating through unprecedented change. Each of our 2020 recipients has a proven commitment to growth and leadership, and truly reflect the amount of talent, diversity and innovation that exists in our province.

'The pandemic certainly had an impact on how I finished off the semester as we moved to online learning almost overnight,' says Danielle. 'In some ways I feel I lost a part of my education, but I also gained useful experience in a more technical approach to communication, which is invaluable in our constantly advancing society.'

Included below are a few details on some of our recipients in the other four scholarship and bursary categories. View more photos and a complete list of our 2020 NS Power Scholarship and Bursary program recipients at nspower.ca/scholarships.
