New Brunswick Student Wins $40,000 Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship

June 20th, 2018, Halifax- Talent, passion, entrepreneurship and community involvement are just some of the attributes Emera was looking for in applicants for the Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship. Emera Inc. (TSX: EMA) is pleased to announce the first recipient of the annual $40,000 award is Dominyka Taylor of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

"We want this scholarship to really make a difference in the lives of Atlantic Canadian students," explains Emera President & CEO Scott Balfour. "Emera strives to be an employer of choice and to give back to the communities where we work. This scholarship is an excellent way to develop the leaders of tomorrow right here in Atlantic Canada."

Dominyka, a graduate of Fredericton High School, has clearly demonstrated an early commitment to fostering entrepreneurship in Atlantic Canada. While in grade 11, Dominyka founded Millennial Inc., a business-pitch competition to connect students with funding and support to develop their business ideas into start-up companies.

Dominyka is a top student who has been very involved in extracurricular clubs and committees at school. She also volunteers in her community. Dominyka will be pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick this fall.

"The Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship will help me build a career in innovation," says Dominyka. "I believe in the potential of innovation and entrepreneurship in Atlantic Canada, and I hope to make a difference in the local and global community."

In addition to $10,000 per year, renewable over four years, Dominyka will receive a paid, 12-week internship with an Emera company. She will also be matched with a mentor from Emera's leadership team.

The Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship was established in honour of Emera's recently retired CEO. Chris Huskilson's career at Emera spanned nearly 40 years, with 14 of them as CEO. The annual Scholarship is open to students from Atlantic Canada studying science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship or mathematics at a university in Atlantic Canada.

The Scholarship will reopen to applicants early in 2019. Students interested in more information about the Chris Huskilson Emera Scholarship can visitwww.emera.com/scholarships.
