Enbridge Inc.'s president and chief executive officer, Al Monaco, is set to retire in the new year after 27 years with the company.

The Calgary, Alberta-based pipeline company said Monday that it has appointed Greg Ebel, who has served as chairman of the board since 2017, to replace Mr. Monaco.

Mr. Monaco, whose retirement will is effective Jan. 1, will stay on in an advisory capacity until March 1 to support Mr. Ebel during the transition period.

Last week, Enbridge said it bought renewable project developer Tri Global Energy in the U.S. as it looks to accelerate growth in North America. It also said last week that it signed an agreement with a number of Indigenous communities whereby they will acquire an almost 12% non-operating stake in seven of its pipelines in northern Alberta.
