In the first six months of the year, Ence has consolidated the growth in the sale of its special products, included within the Ence Advanced brand, to account for 14% of total cellulose sales. These are products with a lower environmental footprint, of natural origin, that can replace others whose production requires a greater amount of resources, or that are composed of synthetic fibers, such as plastics.

The sale of special products represented 9% of total pulp sales at the end of 2020. In the first half of 2021, this proportion has increased by five percentage points, thanks to the company's commitment to promoting this type of product. The year-on-year growth has been 40 percent. In this way, an upward trend is observed, since the creation of Ence Advanced in 2019, as a result of years of work in both market research, R + D + i, and industrial and product development.

Thus, and from this platform, Ence produces and supplies products such as Naturcell, an unbleached paper pulp developed based on highly demanding and innovative criteria in terms of sustainability. The main characteristics are a lower carbon footprint, a better use of energy and a reduction in water consumption in its production.

Also found in this group of products is Powercell, a highly resistant short-fiber cellulose, which can replace long-fiber cellulose in various applications, and with a lower consumption of raw materials. Together with Closecell, a low porosity cellulose, there are multiple applications in which these products can be a sustainable alternative to the use of plastics, such as bags and packaging or flexible packaging for food and beverages.

From Ence Advanced, the company includes all its experience and knowledge through a specialized technical service, which aims to enhance integration with the client and the joint search for added value, thus generating stable relationships that reinforce the value of this proposal commercial.

In addition, with the aim of transparently certifying the sustainability attributes of its products, Ence works on the development of Environmental Product Declarations according to the international EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) scheme. During the first quarter of 2021, the DAP of the unbleached fiber pulp, Naturcell, as well as that of the standard bleached pulp of Pontevedra, was published. Ence's products are the first paste on the market to obtain this certification.

By promoting Ence Advanced products, the company is fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) regarding Responsible Consumption and Production. Ence contributes to the transition from a linear consumption model to the circular economy, with production processes based on renewable raw materials, efficient operations, resource optimization and waste minimization. In addition, Ence promotes responsible consumption, since through its special cellulose it offers alternatives of natural origin, biodegradable and recyclable to other products, such as plastics, derived from petroleum.
