ENCE Energía y Celulosa S A : creates employment in the health and economic crisis of the Covid

In the twelve months that have elapsed since the Government decreed, in March 2020, the state of alarm to stop the expansion of the coronavirus, Ence - Energía y Celulosa has not only fully maintained its activity and its employment, but has also created new sustainable and quality employment in all its work centers, through 290 hires.

In detail, of those 290 contracts made since March 14, 2020, 51 have been of an indefinite nature: 21 in Pontevedra, 11 in Navia and 19 in Madrid and in their independent power plants, located in Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura. Ence's commitment to the growth of the company and the recruitment and maintenance of talent.

In addition, 239 temporary and temporary hires have been made, related to different needs: reinforcement of specific positions - encouraged by the security protocols against coronavirus -, creation of specific teams to maintain checkpoints and limit contact, coverage of casualties, or works included in the annual shutdown of the different plants, among others.

The direct workforce of the company, in a context of health and economic crisis, has increased in this way to 1,176 current jobs: 443 in Asturias, 440 in Galicia, 122 in Andalusia and 171 in Madrid and in the plants of Energy. With this, the direct, indirect and induced employment of all Ence has grown in 2020 to stand at about 20,000 jobs throughout the country.

The company's activity, including forest management, the supply of pulp and the generation of renewable energy, was declared essential since the beginning of the pandemic. Due to this, the continuity of practically all of the activity and the maintenance of thousands of jobs in different sectors, such as cellulose and energy, forestry and logistics, has been guaranteed. In this way, and under strict security measures, the company has contributed to mitigate, as far as possible, the effects of the health crisis.

For Ence, maintaining its activity has been a matter of responsibility towards society, given the importance that the supply of these two products to the population has gained during this situation. Tissue paper, Ence's main destination for cellulose, has taken on a special role in the hygienic measures necessary to prevent and combat Covid-19, since it is used to manufacture such necessary products such as masks, gowns and industrial and hygienic paper. Likewise, renewable electricity production is essential for the operation of hospitals, industries and homes.

This boost to employment in a period of extraordinary difficulty reaffirms the important role that the national industrial fabric has played and will play in the current context of crisis. Companies like Ence, which are committed to maintaining their plants and activity in Spain despite the constant relocation of jobs, have made it possible to cushion the impact of the pandemic on the productive fabric and employment in the industrial sector.
