The Spanish Basketball Federation and its sponsoring partner Endesa, also involved in its eSports area, today announced the launch of the eSports circuit eBaloncesto Challenge by Endesa, a series of online tournaments to compete in the NBA 2K21 game on the PlayStation 4 platform.

In this first season, the initiative consists of four qualifying tournaments and a grand final in Madrid that will feature the eight best players. The qualifying tournaments will be played online in January, March, May and June 2021, and the grand final will be played in person in Madrid during July, coinciding with the last preparatory match of the Men's National Team before the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. The first tournament has opened its registrations today for all Spanish users who want to register, and it will take place on January 29 and 30.

The Spanish Basketball Federation, Endesa and PlayStation have joined forces to carry out this initiative that will reward all qualifiers with tickets and official merchandise of the National Teams, discounts for PlayStation Plus and discounts in the official NBA store. In addition, the final champion of the eBaloncesto Challenge by Endesa will be able to win a PlayStation 5, tickets for the NBA, and will participate in the preselection camp prior to the next official tournament of the Spanish eSports Basketball Team. That is, the participants in this circuit will become eligible and, as long as they meet the essential technical requirements, they will have the chance to wear the Spain shirt in the international tournaments in which they participate.

'It's launch time. When we announced the creation of the new eSports area of the Spanish Basketball Federation a few months ago, it was to experience a day like today, on which we present the eBaloncesto Challenge by Endesa, as always with the support of Endesa', said the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Jorge Garbajosa. 'There will be four tournaments and we are starting this journey now in the last weekend of January with the pool of players who will reach the final phase in July. Within that group of players, they will go to the pre-selection stage to represent our country, as a Team, in the next international tournaments. We encourage all of you to participate. We started a super exciting journey with this platform since we are able to bring together all the eBasketball fans who are going to have their own tournaments here in their own country, build a community and represent our National Team in the future'.

The General Director of Communication of Endesa, Ignacio Jiménez, has affirmed that eSports is a line of entertainment that is here to stay, since millions of people already take part in it. 'It's a pleasure to be able to present and launch an unprecedented tournament in Spain, the eBaloncesto España Challenge by Endesa, the result of a collaboration between three major brands, PlayStation, the Spanish Basketball Federation and Endesa. This will allow us to reach a wider and more diverse audience and give participants access to great prizes. We are very proud to be able to present and launch this initiative today, 'said Jiménez.
