• The Board of Trustees of this organisation devoted to the socio-economic development of Endesa's area of influence elected the Spanish executive at its meeting on 15 December.
  • He has spent the last 20 years of his career in a variety of management positions at Endesa and its parent company Enel in Spain, Colombia and Australia.

The Board of Trustees of the Endesa Foundation appointed Javier Blanco Fernández as its new general manager at a meeting on 15 December.

Javier Blanco, who replaces Alberto Fernández Torres as general manager, was previously Country Manager at Enel Green Power in Australia. He is now returning as general manager of the Endesa Foundation. During the last 18 years, he has held a variety of management positions within the Enel Group, such as Key Account Manager, Associate of M&A, Head of Business Development in Colombia; CFO of Empresa de Energía de Cundinamarca (Bogotá); Head of Projects, Development and Energy Planning in Colombia; Head of Organisation and Structuring of Spanish Wholesale Markets; and Head of Strategic Products and Services in Spain.

Blanco was born in Zaragoza and earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Zaragoza, a degree in Business Administration from UNED, and an MBA, graduating with honours, from the Chicago Booth School of Business. He is currently studying for a Degree in Philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid.

In the words of the new manager of the Endesa Foundation, 'It is an honour and, at the same time, a challenge to work for a foundation in which so many people have already invested their talent and values, enabling us to offer help where it is needed most. During this new stage, I hope to bring the knowledge and experience I have built up over the years in the Enel Group so that, with the help of the Board of Trustees and the Endesa Foundation team, we can consolidate those achievements and broaden the social objectives that guide our actions.'

With a history of more than 20 years, the main goal of the Endesa Foundation, chaired by Juan Sánchez-Calero (then non-executive chairman of Endesa), is to further social development through educational, environmental and cultural projects and training for employment.
