ENDESA S A : renewables plants in Andalusia produced 10% more clean energy in 2020

• In 2020, 1,395 GWh of emission-free energy were produced in Andalusia, which is the yearly power consumption of the cities of Malaga and Seville combined.

Endesa's renewable division, Enel Green Power Spain, produced a total of 1,395 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green energy in Andalusia in 2020, which is 10% more than in 2019. This annual renewable energy production by Endesa in Andalusia could power more than 420,000 homes for one year, or in other words, the annual energy consumption of the cities of Malaga and Seville combined.

Solar and wind energy are the renewable energies that saw the greatest rise in production in 2020, with 790 GWh, 13% more than in 2019, while the energy from Endesa's Andalusian hydroelectric plants produced 605 GWh, 5% more than in 2019.

Renewable potential in Andalusia

Endesa's renewables division, Enel Green Power Spain, has 48 hydroelectric plants, 13 wind farms, 1 biomass plant and 7 photovoltaic parks in Andalusia, four of which came into operation in December 2020, adding 186 megawatts of new renewable capacity to the Andalusian distribution networks.

This renewable capacity will increase in 2021, as Endesa is now building a new photovoltaic plant of about 50 MW in the town of Sanlúcar la Mayor through its renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power Spain. This new plant represents an investment of more than 30 million euros.

Along with these projects already under construction, Endesa is applying for permission to build new renewable capacity in Andalusia, with more than 20 projects spread throughout the provinces of Huelva, Seville, Cordoba, Malaga, Granada and Almería in an investment valued at more than 750 million euros.

Endesa will continue to grow in the renewable sector over the next three years, as announced in its recent Strategic Plan for the 2021-2023 period, which was presented last November. The company has set itself a goal of 30% growth in its renewable energy fleet. Growth that will require an investment of 3.3 billion euros (20% more than in the previous plan) to add 3,900 MW of renewable capacity. As a result, 89% of electricity production on the peninsula will be free of CO2 emissions by the end of 2023.

Through EGPE, Endesa currently manages more than 7,812 MW of installed renewable capacity in Spain, which includes: 4,711 MW conventional hydraulic power; 2,362 MW wind energy, 657 MW solar energy, 79 MW mini-hydraulic energy and 3 MW from other renewable sources.
