• Endesa will build another six parks on the island of Mallorca as a result of the award of 72.4 MW in the auction corresponding to the first call for aid for the investment in photovoltaic solar technology electrical energy production facilities co-financed with EU FEDER funds

Endesa, through its renewable energy division Enel Green Power Spain (EGPE), has started the construction works on a 22 MW photovoltaic plant on the Sa Caseta farm, in the municipality of Llucmajor, in Mallorca.

The photovoltaic plant, in which Endesa plans to invest €17.7 million, will consist of some 56,700 photovoltaic panels of 385 Wp of power. It is estimated that this facility will come into operation in April 2021 and, when it is operational, it will produce around 36.76 GWh/year, therefore avoiding the emission of approximately 24,400 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

To make its operation possible, Enel Green Power Spain will build 3 transformation centres and a private substation. In addition, a common collector substation will also be installed with the future Cap Blanc 132/66 kV photovoltaic park and an underground evacuation line that will connect to the Cala Blava substation.

The construction of this renewable capacity is in line with Endesa's strategy of completely decarbonising its generation mix by 2050. To achieve this, the milestone of its 2019-2022 Strategic Plan will be to reach 10.2 GW of renewable installed capacity by 2022, compared with the 7.4 GW estimated for the end of 2019 (which includes the 879 MW awarded in the 2017 auctions), with a total investment of about €3.8 billion.

In the construction of this plant, sustainable engineering criteria will be followed and the Enel Green Power 'Sustainable Construction Site' model will be applied, including the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to cover part of the energy needs during the work and measures saving water by installing tanks and rainwater collection systems. Once the works are finished, both the photovoltaic panels and the water saving equipment will be donated to the municipality for public use.

Endesa's renewable projects in the Balearic Islands

Apart from the Sa Caseta photovoltaic park, Endesa expects to have the administrative authorisations for the construction of 6 more photovoltaic plants shortly: Biniatria, Son Orlandis, Son Juny, Son Reus, Can Balança and Ca na Lloreta. The 72.4 MW obtained by Endesa in the Balearic renewable energy auction, with an investment of approximately €60 million, will generate 114 GWh per year.

Endesa currently manages, through EGPE, more than 7,438 MW of renewable capacity in Spain. Of this figure, 4,701 MW comes from conventional hydraulic generation; and the rest, 2,737 MW, comes from wind (2,292 MW), solar (352 MW), mini-hydro (79 MW) and other renewable sources (14 MW).
