Enel SpA said Friday that it was awarded capacity contracts amounting to 59.2 megawatts for Italian transmission system operator Terna's ultra-rapid frequency-regulation service.

The Rome-based energy company said the frequency-regulation service--which is deployed by grid operators to regulate a system's frequency level--will be carried out starting in January 2023 through December 2027.

It said the awarded 59.2 megawatts of capacity will be supplied by infrastructure called fast reserve units, which can provide ultra-fast response service in less than one second.

The contracts relate to Italy's central-northern mainland and central-southern mainland.

Enel didn't disclose financial details of the contracts.
