Enel SpA said Thursday that its energy-services business line Enel X has set up a joint venture with Sydney-based investment manager AMP Capital for the development of electric public transportation infrastructure in the Americas.

The Rome-based energy company said Enel X has a 20% interest in the joint venture, while AMP Capital has 80%.

The two companies will co-invest in the development and leasing of vehicles for electric ground mass public transportation as well as infrastructure for the storage, charging, repair and operation of vehicles in the Americas.

Enel X will provide development and administrative services to the joint venture, which already owns 433 operating electric buses and charging infrastructure in Santiago, Chile.
