Enel SpA said Monday that its energy-services business line Enel X and private investment house Ardian Infrastructure have entered into a joint venture to operate and develop battery-storage projects in Canada.

The Rome-based energy company said the venture, 80% owned by Ardian and 20% by Enel X, will manage projects with around 30 megawatts of capacity .

The portfolio includes ten asset locations in the Ontario region and two separate projects that are expected to reach commercial operations in 2021.

Through the partnership, Enel X will continue to operate and maintain these projects as well as develop future ones, according to Enel.

"This partnership with Ardian Infrastructure represents an important step that will further support the expansion of innovative energy efficiency solutions in the North American market," said Francesco Venturini, Enel X's chief executive officer.
