GRTgaz delivers a macroeconomic analysis of the recovery of the network situation, flows and gas consumption as of June 30, 2020.

Christophe Bouvier, Deputy Director Gas System, Jean-Damien Lenoir and Arnaud Chevillon, Sales Marketing Delegates and Frederic Folscheid, Strategic Analyst provide insights.

Gas consumption: a recovery confirmed as of June 30, 2020

GRTgaz confirms the resumption of gas consumption by manufacturers connected to its network since 04/30/2020. The sectors most affected by the Covid-19 have been picking up since mid-May, in particular sites that were stopped have started to consume gradually (eg the automobile sector).

Since the beginning of June, the consumption of industrial customers has only been on average 6% below its level during the same period of 2019 against almost 20% for the end of March and the beginning of April 2020. 'The manufacturers are therefore gradually returning to the same level of consumption as in 2019! ' Underlines Arnaud Chevillon.

Another positive sign, on the CCCG side, the trend has been a strong recovery since the beginning of June which is explained by a competitive price of gas making it possible to make the production of electricity from natural gas profitable.

What's new with supply flows

Christophe Bouvier notes that: 'given the very high level of filling of storage to date (76% filling), we logically observe a reduction in the injection rates during the month of June'.

The flows observed are highly variable, evolving according to restrictions linked to the works, reduced LNG arrivals and fluctuations in exports to Spain in particular.

Gas exports remain at a maximum level in Oltingue (to Switzerland and Italy).
