Solar energy is one of the most promising technologies for making the energy transition happen.

It is a cheap method of generating energy, but it also has enormous potential for electricity production. ENGIE guides its customers to become carbon neutral and in that context, together with subsidiary ENGIE Solutions - Solar Technics, has built the largest floating solar panel project in Belgium on behalf of Floating PV NV, with shareholders LRM, EDF Luminus and Sibelco.

The largest floating solar panel park comprises no fewer than 17 256 solar panels. They were installed in Dessel, on a lake next to one of the production sites of the sand extraction company Sibelco, which will also consume the solar energy on site. The 17 256 solar panels occupy 5 hectares of the 70 hectare lake. This is the first project in Belgium to make large-scale use of floating solar panels.

What is special about this project is that the energy generated by Sibelco is used for the extraction of sand, a raw material for producing the glass of solar panels. This completes the circle!

With a total capacity of 7.04 MWp, the total power production is estimated at 6,300 MWh / year, which corresponds to the consumption of 1,550 households.

ENGIE Solutions - Solar Technics is not ready for its test piece. In 2019, the company already collaborated with LRM for the construction of the largest onshore solar park in the country, the Kristal Solar Park in Lommel.

ENGIE Solutions - Solar Technics will also be responsible for the maintenance of the solar panels and make their expertise in engineering and innovation available.
