ENGIE strongly developing in renewables

10/26/2021 | 10:26am EST

At the end of September, ENGIE signed Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs) for 1.9 GW and commissioned 1.8 GW of renewable assets worldwide. A strong and sustainable development, in line with the Group's ambitions and targets regarding renewables.

"ENGIE back on top" as CPPAs' developer

BloombergNEF, the reference in terms of strategic analysis in the field of energy transition, ranks ENGIE first position at the end of July 2021 for signed CPPAs.

At the end of September, ENGIE signed additional CPPAs for a total volume of 1.9 GW (vs 1.5 GW for the full year 2020), to provide major industrial and tech companies with renewable power, supporting them on the path to greening their activities.

Major assets commissioned

ENGIE also commissioned a total of 1.8 GW of renewable assets, in wind (912 MW onshore, 252 MW off-shore) and solar (618 MW), since the beginning of 2021:

  • in the USA, 203 MW of new assets entered into operation, such as Bluestone, 50 MW in Virginia;
  • in Brazil, 361 MW achieved operation with the full completion of the Campo Largo 2 Wind Complex, in the State of Bahia (361 MW additional capacities commissioned on this 688 MW wind park);
  • in India, 200 MW with the 2nd largest solar park of the Group in the country, the Raghanesda Solar Power Park, in the Western state of Gujarat;
  • and in Europe, 625 MW were commissioned since the beginning of the year, mostly in France (298 MW) and Belgium (252 MW).
Strong European presence in renewables

ENGIE is a key actor of Renewables energy in Europe, where the Group operates around 40% of its total renewable capacity (12 GW out of 31 GW as of end of December 2020). In France, the Group is the 1st generator of onshore wind and solar power and the 2nd generator of hydroelectric power. ENGIE, via Ocean Winds, its 50/50 joint venture with EDPR, is building Moray East (950 MW offshore wind farm in the United-Kingdom) and has built WindFloat Atlantic in Portugal, the first floating offshore wind farm in continental Europe.

"Our commitment is to accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality. CPPAs are a key enabler to develop renewable assets by securing the offtake on the one hand, and to provide price visibility to our clients on the other hand.", Paulo ALMIRANTE, ENGIE's Senior Executive Vice President in charge of Renewables & Energy Management Activities
