E.ON has announced that it will be responsible for the planning, construction and process engineering of Gerolsteiner's new biomass cogeneration plant.
The plant, which will be fueled by regional wood chips, will cover up to 95% of the site's heat requirements and 20% of its electricity consumption in the Vulkaneifel region of Germany, saving over 7,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
The project is part of Gerolsteiner's climate strategy, which has already achieved its 2030 emissions reduction target of 59% by 2024. Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer praised this commitment, calling it a "model of sustainability."
