ESSEN (dpa-AFX) - A further 1,400 public charging points for trucks and cars are to be installed on major roads in 13 European countries by the end of 2027. This is the aim of an EU program called Drive-E, which is being funded with 45 million euros. The energy company Eon, the Slovakian Eon subsidiary ZSE and the charging point operator Eldrive are responsible for implementing the program. The program contributes significantly to the electrification of European freight and passenger transport, the energy company Eon announced in Essen.

According to Eon, the 1,400 charging points include 430 charging points for heavy commercial vehicles with an output of 350 kilowatts or more. The charging points for cars and commercial vehicles are to be set up along important freight routes. "This includes locations specifically designed for charging trucks as well as mixed environments for trucks and cars," it said. Another focus of the project is to supplement and expand the existing network for light commercial vehicles in areas with gaps in the network.

Charging points will be installed at more than 250 locations

The 1,400 charging points are to be installed at more than 250 locations in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

Eon continues to expand its e-mobility business. According to the Federal Network Agency, the subsidiary Eon Drive was Germany's second-largest charging station operator at the beginning of December with almost 4,300 charging points behind EnBW Mobility (8,400). Eon currently operates more than 6,000 public charging points in eleven European countries, reported Eon./tob/DP/mis
