Power and automation company ABB has signed a letter of intent with Epiroc for underground trolley equipment, according to a press release.

The aim is to jointly promote solutions for underground mining trolley systems that reduce carbon emissions from mining vehicles.

"We are pleased to deepen our partnership with ABB to develop a strategic plan for sustainable and innovative mining, starting with the decarbonization of mining trucks. This will allow us to expand the trolley system to meet the broader needs of the industry with the goal of increasing both safety and production," said Wayne Symes, President Epiroc Underground Division.

The letter of intent follows the successful implementation of the world's first battery-electric underground trolley truck system at Boliden's Kristineberg mine.
