Equinor ASA said Tuesday that it has been awarded 26 new production licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf with 18 as operator and eight as partner.

The 2022 award in predefined areas licensing round saw the Norwegian energy group awarded 16 licenses in the North Sea, nine in the Norwegian Sea and one in the Barents Sea.

"Production from existing oil and gas fields will decline, and continued exploration and replenishment is essential to maintaining long-term, important energy deliveries from Norway," the company said.

Separately, Aker BP ASA said it has been offered interests in 17 new production licenses in the licensing round, of which nine as operator. Of the 17 production licenses awarded to Aker BP, 13 are located in the North Sea and four in the Norwegian Sea.
