Communications services companies fell as investors rotated out of growth-oriented sectors.

Swedish telecom-services giant Ericsson agreed to buy Cradlepoint, a U.S.-based wireless networking company, in a $1.1 billion deal, aimed at boosting its offerings in so-called Internet of Things technology fourth- and fifth-generation communication networks.
