Energy company expects to substantially complete restoration by end of day Monday

BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 30, 2022) - With the arrival of additional crews from Connecticut and New Hampshire, Eversource will have more than 1,700 crews and additional support staff working as quickly as safely possible to repair damage as its massive restoration effort continues today. Working around-the-clock in challenging blizzard-like conditions, the energy company restored power to more than 50,000 customers overnight Saturday into Sunday and expects the vast majority of the approximately 54,000 customers remaining without power as of 9 a.m. will be restored by the end of the day Monday, with most before then.

"We know how challenging it is for our customers to be without power, especially in this frigid weather," said Eversource Vice President for Electric Operations Bill Ritchie. "Despite dangerous conditions like strong winds, low visibility and difficult travel that can slow restoration efforts, our crews made great progress restoring power to more than 50,000 customers overnight. Additional resources will continue arriving through morning to support our massive restoration, and our more than 1,700 crews and additional support staff will not stop working until every home and business has power back."

Since the beginning of the storm, Eversource has restored power to more than 240,000 customers in Massachusetts, including those who lost power more than once. The hardest-hit communities from the destructive nor'easter are mostly concentrated on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard and along the South Shore and South Coast.

Eversource's gas crews are also working today to clear snow from critical gas infrastructure, and the energy company continues to remind customers to clear ice and snow from gas meters for emergency access, as well as to keep generators in well-ventilated areas outside and away from vents, windows and garage doors to prevent carbon monoxide exposure.

Additionally, customers should remain aware of any weakened tree limbs that could fall, and should stay clear of downed wires and report them immediately to 9-1-1. For more information on winter storm safety, please visit Eversource.com.
