EVRAZ plc reported operating results for the first quarter of 2021. For the period, total crude steel production of 3,409,000 tonnes compared to 3,559,000 tonnes a year ago. Total raw coking coal mined was 4,236,000 tonnes compared to 3,747,000 tonnes a year ago. Total coking coal concentrate production was 4,236,000 tonnes compared to 3,747,000 tonnes a year ago. Iron ore products production was 3,394,000 tonnes compared to 3,595,000 tonnes a year ago. Total sales of steel products was 3,071,000 tonnes compared to 3,225,000 tonnes a year ago. Consolidated crude steel output fell by 1.7% quarter on quarter, mainly due to unscheduled downtime of the sintering machine at EVRAZ ZSMK. Total sales of steel products dropped by 9.9% quarter on quarter, driven primarily by lower sales of semi-finished products amid reduced steel availability due to lower pig-iron production volumes as well as seasonal decline in sales of construction products and local decrease in demand for rails in Russia. Total raw coking coal production climbed by 7.8% quarter on quarter. Coking coal concentrate production grew by 3.6% quarter on quarter, mainly due to increased coal mining volumes.
