In early March 2021, Emily Richmond, M.Sc., CBiol, MRSB, ERT, a managing scientist in Exponent's Chemical Regulation & Food Safety practice, was elected to chair the UK Industrial Reproductive Toxicology Discussion Group (IRDG). As chairperson, Ms. Richmond will help further the IRDG's objectives by providing a collaborative industry forum for discussing the scientific and technical aspects of reproductive toxicology tests and overall testing strategies required by regulatory authorities. She will also help ensure that the general interests of industrial reproductive toxicology laboratories are represented in discussions with other scientific groups and regulatory authorities.
As an experienced regulatory toxicologist, Ms. Richmond brings a wealth of technical knowledge to her role as chairperson. Her expertise comes from 17 years working in the industry, with 14 years of experience at a contract research organization, designing testing strategies and directing a wide range of mammalian in vivo toxicity studies for substances such as pharmaceuticals, biologicals, agrochemicals, biocides, industrial chemicals, and food flavorings. Ms. Richmond is a registered European toxicologist and chartered biologist; committee member for the UK IRDG; a 2019 committee member for the European Teratology Society; and a member of the U.S. Teratology Society.
