SYDNEY--ExxonMobil Corp.'s Australian operation has commenced a voluntary redundancy program for local employees following a review of current and future projects.

ExxonMobil Australia on Wednesday said it has asked employees across its local operations to lodge expressions of interest by the end of September.

"This program will ensure the company manages through these unprecedented market conditions," it said in a statement.

ExxonMobil Australia wouldn't comment when contacted on the number of redundancies it is targeting or whether the move is part of a global initiative.

ExxonMobil Corp. didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
