The head of Exxon Mobil's massive exploration and production arm is retiring after more than three decades with the energy giant and will be replaced by a former General Motors executive.
Exxon on Tuesday said Liam Mallon, who joined the Spring, Texas, company in 1990 and has been president of ExxonMobil Upstream since 2022, will depart on Feb. 1.
Exxon said Dan Ammann, a former longtime GM executive who joined the company in 2022 to lead its fledgling low-carbon business, succeeds Mallon as president of ExxonMobil Upstream.
The company's upstream operations generated earnings of nearly $18.9 billion in the first nine months of 2024.
Ammann previously ran GM's Cruise autonomous-vehicle business after a stint as president of the automaker.
Exxon said another former GM executive, Barry Engle will succeed Ammann as president of the low-carbon business, known as Low Carbon Solutions, on Jan. 1. Engle, who joined Exxon in September, previously served stints as president of GM North America and GM International.
