16 July 2021 - Falck Renewables is once again a partner of the 'Cresco Award Sustainable Cities', the contest now in its sixth edition and promoted by Fondazione Sodalitas in collaboration with ANCI and 17 associated companies, to reward the best sustainability projects of municipalities in line with the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The 6th edition of the 'Cresco Award Sustainable Cities', the contest promoted by Fondazione Sodalitas in collaboration with ANCI and 17 member companies, to reward the best sustainability projects of municipalities in line with the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda, is now underway.

In Italy, the relationship between businesses, territories and local communities is deep and has a long tradition, which is however often underestimated and deserves to be much more valued.

It is with this in mind that Fondazione Sodalitas and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) launched a partnership in 2016 with the aim of promoting collaborations between businesses and local authorities to promote the sustainable development of territories. This is how 'Cresco Award Sustainable Cities' was born, a contest aimed at the 8,000 Italian municipalities that aims to bring out the commitment of municipalities in making local territories grow from an economic, social and environmental point of view. The 6th edition of the competition, which is sponsored by the European Commission, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, is now open. 17 companies associated with Fondazione Sodalitas are partners in the competition, each of which will select, from among the candidate municipalities, the one that is most effective in developing a specific sustainability issue for its territory: from sustainable mobility to the circular economy, from local energy sustainability to open innovation and school inclusion, to name but a few.

Many municipalities have participated, individually or as part of aggregations between local authorities and metropolitan cities, in the first five editions of the 'Cresco Award', presenting over 600 projects in recent years. These projects represent a unique wealth of knowledge on how Italian municipalities are acting today to guide the development of their territories by concretely implementing the themes at the heart of the 2030 Agenda.

Participation in the Cresco Award is free of charge. Projects must be submitted by 4 October 2021, through the digital platform 'crescoawardideaTRE60 ' made available by Fondazione Italiana Accenture.

Participation is open to:

  • Municipalities
  • Metropolitan Cities
  • Union/Grouping of Municipalities
  • Mountain Communities

Participants can nominate one or more projects that have recently been completed or are in the process of being developed/implemented, relating to the themes set out in the SDGs of Agenda 2030. Awards will be given according to the demographic classes of the municipalities: from the smallest, under 5,000 inhabitants, to the largest, over 100,000 inhabitants. The nominations will be assessed by an independent, multi-stakeholder jury, chaired by the Rector of the Politecnico di Milano, Ferruccio Resta. The Enterprise Awards, on the other hand, will be assigned directly by the partner companies, at their own discretion. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in November during the ANCI National Assembly.
