About the FINA World Championships

FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation, or International Swimming Federation in English) hosts this tournament every two years. Athletes compete across swimming, diving, high diving, water polo, artistic swimming and open water swimming disciplines. In swimming, this event ranks second only to the Olympics. The inaugural FINA World Championships were in Belgrade in 1973. The number of participating swimmers and countries and territories has expanded since then, as has worldwide broadcast coverage. The 19th championships are in Fukuoka in 2022.

About the FINA World Masters Championships

The Masters programme promotes fitness, friendship, understanding, and competition through the swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming and open water disciplines. While the FINA World Championships are for representatives of countries and territories, the FINA World Masters Championships are open to anyone over the age of 25 (over 30 in water polo). These competitions contribute to the development of aquatic sports by attracting swimming enthusiasts from around the world.
