When the Clarion Hotel® Draken is inaugurated in summer 2023, it will be Gothenburg's tallest hotel and Draken now already rises to a height of 23 floors. On Wednesday, the three representatives of Balder, Nordic Choice Hotels and Folkets Hus Gothenburg met for a joint first visit to the building.

Masthuggskajen close to Järntorget square in Gothenburg is a district under transformation where new housing and workplaces are being created as well as places to socialise in. In the middle of the area, Draken hotel is taking shape and when finished in mid-2023 it will rise to a total height of 104 metres.

Balder is one of Sweden's largest owners of hotel properties. Apart from hotels in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö, Balder also owns hotel properties in Copenhagen, Berlin and Helsinki, among other places.

"At Balder, we are very proud to be a part of Draken hotel and the opportunity to develop this location along with Folkets Hus and Nordic Choice Hotels. Draken hotel will be an excellent addition to Gothenburg as a city for visitors and conferences," says Balder's CEO Erik Selin.

Clarion Hotel® Draken will contain more than 470 hotel rooms and conference facilities with a capacity for approximately 1,200 people. The hotel concept is still secret but as always the hotel chain's owner has big plans, which he also shared during Wednesday's visit.

"I have said it before and I will say it again: This will be the People's Avenyn! It is one of the places that define Gothenburg and builds the soul of the city. With the hotel, we will make it possible for more people to experience the area and we will continue to build the Gothenburg success story," says Petter Stordalen, owner of Nordic Choice Hotels.

"We think that the entire development of the new Masthuggskajen district is fantastic. Folkets Hus organises many conferences and a hotel for our overnight guests has been on our wish list for a long time. The collaboration has not just made it possible to develop Draken in a fine way but has also meant that we can make a large investment in our premises," says Mats Arnsmar, CEO of Folkets Hus Gothenburg.

As with Masthuggskajen, the sustainability aspect is important in the hotel venture and the goal is to create a lively and vibrant place, and to connect the past with the future. This ambition is clear not least through the careful management of the Draken cinema's premises and the newly constructed hotel's architecture and furnishing. The hotel is being built according to the LEED environmental certification system, Gold rating.
