Ferrari NV said Wednesday that it has named Benedetto Vigna as its new chief executive officer with effect from Sept. 1.

Mr. Vigna is currently working at STMicroelectronics NV as president of its analog, MEMS and sensors group and his departure was announced by the European chip maker earlier today.

"In his role as CEO, Mr. Vigna's priority will be to ensure that Ferrari continues to build on its leadership position as the creator of the world's most beautiful and technically advanced cars," the Italian luxury-car maker said.

In December of last year, Ferrari announced the resignation of its previous CEO Louis Camilleri for personal reasons and said that its Executive Chairman John Elkann would act as interim CEO while the board identified Mr. Camilleri's successor.
