AKRON, Ohio (AP) _ FirstEnergy Corp. (FE) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $58 million.

The Akron, Ohio-based company said it had net income of 11 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 59 cents per share.

The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 59 cents per share.

The utility company posted revenue of $2.62 billion in the period.

For the current quarter ending in October, FirstEnergy expects its per-share earnings to range from 70 cents to 80 cents.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.40 to $2.60 per share.

FirstEnergy shares have climbed 28% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has risen 16%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $39.15, a rise of 45% in the last 12 months.
