Fletcher Building has achieved another milestone for sustainability this year, receiving a B rating from the CDP for its approach to managing carbon emissions and climate change. CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world's leading environmental disclosure platform.

CEO Ross Taylor said: 'We are proud to have CDP recognise our action on climate issues. We have improved by two ratings in two years - up from a D rating in 2018 to a B rating this year, which is only issued to organisations that are taking co-ordinated action on climate issues. This reflects the significant progress we have made in the past few years as a result of our conscious focus on sustainability. We are one of just a handful of companies in our industries in New Zealand or Australia to achieve this rating.

'Climate change is an urgent, global priority and we are committed to doing our part in creating a sustainable future. We have a verified Science Based Target to reduce our carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2030 from our 2018 baseline year.

'Our improvement in CDP rating, follows our recent inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability™ Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia-Pacific) for the first time alongside our continued inclusion in the DJSI Australia.

'Transforming our business around sustainability is a key enabler of our strategy and will ensure our business is innovative, resilient, and can support economic growth in the longer-term, just as we have done for more than 100 years. We want to be the New Zealand and Australian leader in sustainable building materials, construction and distribution.'

Dexter Galvin, Global Director of Corporations & Supply Chains at CDP, commented: 'The private sector has a huge role to play in the transition to a sustainable economy, and the first essential step for companies is to be transparent around their current environmental impacts. Fletcher Building is among a critical mass of companies that are disclosing their environmental data to their stakeholders through CDP annually. The disclosure process is helping them to build trust through transparency, uncover risks and opportunities, boost their competitive edge and track progress towards their environmental goals. I look forward to seeing them advance on their sustainability journey.'

Fletcher Building has disclosed through CDP since 2010, and for 2020 completed CDP's Climate Change and Water security questionnaires.
