THOMASVILLE, Ga. (AP) _ Flowers Foods Inc. (FLO) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $53.7 million.

The Thomasville, Georgia-based company said it had profit of 25 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and severance costs, came to 31 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 27 cents per share.

The bakery goods company posted revenue of $1.13 billion in the period, which met Street forecasts.

Flowers Foods expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.25 to $1.30 per share, with revenue in the range of $4.76 billion to $4.85 billion.
