NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) - In the global metropolis of New York, world champion Red Bull has presented its new Formula 1 racing car and its future engine partner - which will come from the USA. Following the collapsed deal with Volkswagen subsidiary Porsche, the team led by two-time champion and defending champion Max Verstappen will get its engines from Ford from 2026 onwards, as will sister team Alpha Tauri. The contract is valid until at least the end of 2030, it was announced on Friday.

The U.S. manufacturer, with which Michael Schumacher won his first two world championship titles out of a total of seven triumphs in 1994 and 1995 in the Benetton, is the third most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One. There are few brands as celebrated in the history of motorsport as Ford, said the president of the International Automobile Federation, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Ford's return was also made possible primarily by the reform that will take effect in three years. Under it, future hybrid engines will run on 100 percent sustainable fuel. The internal combustion engine in the unit will contribute only 50 percent of the power, with the rest being electric. The new regulations, which are geared toward sustainability, have also already made it possible for Audi to enter the race, also in three years./jmx/DP/zb
