SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) _ Fortinet Inc. (FTNT) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $173.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Sunnyvale, California-based company said it had net income of 21 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 24 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 22 cents per share.

The network security company posted revenue of $1.03 billion in the period, which met Street forecasts.

For the current quarter ending in October, Fortinet expects its per-share earnings to range from 26 cents to 28 cents. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.14.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.11 billion to $1.14 billion for the fiscal third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $1.01 billion.

Fortinet expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.01 to $1.06 per share, with revenue ranging from $4.35 billion to $4.4 billion.
