Nebahat Albayrak, LLM, 52, has been appointed Senior Vice President Corporate Affairs, Safety and Sustainability and a member of Fortum's Executive Management. In her role she will be responsible for Fortum's Public Affairs, Group Communication, Brand, Security as well as Sustainability. Ms. Albayrak will assume the post on 1 July 2021 at the latest and will report to Fortum's President and CEO Markus Rauramo. She succeeds Arto Räty, who successfully has served in this position since 2016. Mr. Räty will retire at the end of October 2021. During the past 10 years, Nebahat Albayrak has held leadership positions at Royal Dutch Shell, where she has been responsible for External Communications and Relations in the Integrated Gas and New Energies and the Global Upstream businesses. Prior to Shell, Ms Albayrak served in the Dutch Government for almost 20 years, being elected as Member of Parliament at the age of 29. During her political career she served as Chair of the Parliamentary Committees for Foreign Affairs and Defense, as party spokesperson for European Affairs and Justice and as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She also served as Secretary of State for Justice for four years.
