Guo Guangchang: Live to be 121? Start from beating cancer!

On 5^th November, the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) was officially launched. Yesterday, we also hosted the World Health Technology Forum at National Exhibition and Convention Centre and I took the opportunity to have a nice tour of the exhibition galleries of CIIE. After the tour, I had a few thoughts and would like to share them with you.

'Combining China's growth momentum with global resources' is an opportunity for all of us

Backed by the massive Chinese market, CIIE presented a wide variety of goods and is a feast for global trade.

During the event, I met many of my foreign friends. After meeting and talking with them, I felt that they are all excited, especially that they kept saying how popular their products were at CIIE.

I congratulated them gladly. The reason why I am so glad is not only that they have full confidence in the development of China but also our economy has become increasing healthier. Because I believe that China not only provides premium goods for the world but also allows quality companies that are highly complementary in terms of production technology to make a profit in China. We both buy and sell. Our economy will become increasingly globalized and healthy.

Therefore, CIIE serves as a big platform to link China and the world, and combine China's growth momentum with global resources. This is an opportunity for China and also for everyone in the world.

Trade is the first step and more in-depth cooperation lies in the future

Every company will consider R&D and having production locally to make their products sell well. This is because your clients are located there and you have to respond to their need at the fastest speed. The closer you are to the market, the faster you can respond.

Actually, many global enterprises participating CIIE have long established their branches in China. For instance, the da Vinci Surgical Robot, one of the Internet celebrities at CIIE, saw 34 signed orders in the recent three days with a transaction amount of nearly RMB 800 million. It set up a joint venture in Zhangjiang, Shanghai in the beginning of this year. Fosun is honored to be da Vinci's partner in China. Is it possible to extend human's life expectancy to at least 121 years old?

In today's mega health forum hosted by us, I was very excited to have a mind-blowing conversation with Professor Shi Yigong, the President of Westlake University, around the theme of whether human's life expectancy can be extended to 121 years old. I am positive about that.

Later, some media reviewed our conversation and said Professor Shi threw a wet blanket on me as Shi believes today's technology is yet to make people live to be 120.

Professor Shi is a very rigorous scholar and I totally agree with what he said. However, I have always been an optimist. Although I don't know much about technology, I feel like we must have an objective and a dream that can give us enough pressure. Though it cannot be done now, we might realize it someday if we continue to make efforts in the right direction.

Just like five years ago, all of us thought cancer was truly an incurable disease and there was no better way of treating it other than radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and cancerous tissue resection. However, according to Fosun's recent practices, cancer will become a chronicle disease in the next three to five years and has a good chance to be cured in the near future. Based on the Fosun-Kite CAR-T cellular immunity therapy co-developed by us and the US-based Kite Pharma, and the research findings of Henlius, a biopharmaceutical company founded by Fosun ten years ago, Fochon Pharmaceuticals, and other healthcare companies under us, there are many types of specific medicine targeted at cancer that are already in the clinical stage and expected to be launched within the next three years. This is where my confidence comes from.
