Optimization of warehouse operations

As the 'great resignation' continues, warehouse labor shortages are putting real pressure on supply chains. In the US, the warehouse and transportation industry had a record 490,000 job openings in July, with a worsening picture likely through key seasonal bottlenecks, such as the Christmas holiday season.

Quantum-Inspired optimization addresses this pressure, reducing the amount of time warehouse personnel spend just walking from one SKU to the next - which is 70% of an average warehouse picker's working day, according to one estimate.

At a UK warehouse Fujitsu has used optimization to identify the optimal order for picking, rather than using a standard batch picking mode. Usable data is generated rapidly resulting in optimal clustering of order allocation to pickers.
