Gem Diamonds Ltd - 70% owner of Letseng diamond mine in Lesotho, southern Africa - Finds 129.71 carat type II white diamond at Leseng mine on Friday last week. The stone is the tenth diamond of more than 100 carats found so far in 2024. Gem recovered a 145.55 carat diamond at the beginning of this month. The value of such large stones varies widely. In the first quarter of this year, Gem Diamonds said it sold 113.11 carat white diamond for USD39,345 per carat, or USD4.5 million.
Separately last week, Lucara Diamond Corp said it recovered one of the largest rough diamonds ever unearthed, a 2,492 carat stone, at its Karowe diamond mine in Botswana.
