General Motors Co. on Friday said it will renovate its Western New York Lockport Components plant to produce electric motor components.

The company said it planned to invest almost $154 million for renovations, new equipment and machinery used in the production of stator modules, a component in electric motors.

Renovations will begin immediately, GM said, adding the facility will continue to build components supporting the company's current truck and SUV production.

The site currently has over 1,500 employees and GM said it expects to add about 230 new positions between 2023 and 2026.
